We are bringing back fire and life safety inspections for the urbanized Skagway district.
Our mission with these inspections, is to bring awareness and provide education in fire and life safety hazards by identifying and remedying risks before major events occur.
The best way to protect from fires is to prevent them from occurring.
We will be working with you, our community, in offering solutions and guidance in fire and life safety codes.
Customer Satisfaction is extremely important to us. After in-person inspections, fire crews will give you a customer satisfaction card to complete in your spare time. This allows us to gauge our performance and effectiveness with the community.

Skagway Fire is holding our first Firefighter 1 course offered in house in over a decade. This class is part of a process we’ve been working towards in regaining our Firefighter 1 accreditation with the State of Alaska. Once completed, we will be able to train and certify Firefighter 1 in house continuously, offering this curriculum and certification as part of our ongoing department trainings, available to all our membership.
Goodbye 2022...hello 2023!! What a wonderful ride it's been with some amazing men and women. Let's get ready to put in some strong work this new year!
Today we had a special visitor, retired 20 year FDNY vet who was a first responder on September 11, 2001. Mr. Parker shared his stories of the World Trade Center events and aftermath of 9/11. He was even kind enough to gift us a signed copy of his book, "Chiefs Pawns & Warriors, A memoir of Firefighter Ron Parker's 9/11 Experience". We thank Mr. Parker for his years dedicated to the fire service and for continuing to educate the public on 9/11 and the ultimate sacrifices made.
EMS Training this week was scenario based with a simulated bicycle accident. Each team had to assess, immobilize, treat, and transport their patient. They utilized the scoop stretcher to minimize movement of the patient to place onto the vacuum mattress.

Testing out new equipment and honing skills for operations at the small boat harbor utilizing the standpipe system. The new in line pressure gauge allows for firefighters to get a more accurate pressure reading at each of the standpipe connections so that the engineer can adjust the pump depending on how far away the fire may be.

Skagway Fire Department was staffing Aid Station #6 at Nahku Bay Road during @duffsskagwaymarathon today handing out water, Gatorade, and cheers for the runners. This was also a good halfway point for any potential medical responses outside of town. Thankfully the weather was great and no medical services were needed. Congrats to all the runners!
